The DiamondClean 9000 is Philips’ established premium sonic brush, and a calmer alternative to Oral-B’s iO9: there is no screen, just four modes (Clean, White+, Gum Health and Deep Clean+), three intensities, a pressure sensor that pulses the handle when you press too hard, and app coaching if you want it. BrushSync recognises compatible Philips heads, switches to the matching mode (a whitening head selects White+, for example) and tells you when the head is due for a change. SmarTimer and QuadPacer handle the two minutes, and EasyStart eases you in over the first 14 brushes. It charges standing in a glass on a charging base, which looks well on a shelf but needs a spot away from the edge of the sink, and Philips quotes up to 14 days per charge. The catch is running cost: the C3 Premium heads it comes with are among the dearest genuine heads of either brand. It also takes Philips’ cheaper click-on heads, although BrushSync only works with heads that support it. The listing does not say which two-pin shaver plug the charger has, and parts of its product details are in German, so it may be a European-market edition with a European two-pin plug: make sure your shaver socket or adaptor accepts that type.
Oral-B’s premium rival, with a colour display and a red and green pressure light
Two intensities and a pressure alert for far less, without the app
