If you play golf in Ireland between October and April, a proper golf umbrella earns its keep quickly. The feature to look for is a double canopy: the vented top lets gusts escape instead of turning the umbrella inside out, which matters on an exposed links or a hilltop parkland course. This Titleist StaDry has a vented double canopy, a nylon canopy and a fibreglass shaft and frame, which tend to flex in the wind rather than bend like cheap steel ribs, and it opens by hand. It is golf-umbrella sized, so it keeps you and the top of your bag dry between shots, and it fits the umbrella holder that many push trolleys have. You pay a little extra for the Titleist name, and like any golf umbrella it is long and does not fold down, so it lives on the bag or in the boot.
