Independent Editorial Assessment

Our Verdict

Exploding Kittens is the card game people ask for after playing it once at someone else’s house. Everyone draws from the same deck, and whoever draws an Exploding Kitten is out unless they can play a Defuse card; the other cards let you skip a turn, peek at the top of the deck or push the danger onto someone else. It takes a few minutes to teach and a game lasts about a quarter of an hour, which suits a busy kitchen at Christmas where people drift in and out. The box is small enough for a stocking or a coat pocket on the way to the grandparents’. Luck decides a lot of games, so strategy fans may tire of it, and one deck tops out at five players.
