SanDisk Optimus GX PRO 850X 2TB NVMe M.2 2280 SSD with Heatsink – PCIe 4.0, up to 7,300 MB/s

Our Verdict

The 850X is SanDisk’s high-end Gen4 drive, and this version has an integrated heatsink that SanDisk says is compatible with the PS5 and PS5 Pro. At 2TB it adds more than twice the usable space an original PS5 or a 1TB Slim has built in, which is the point where most people stop juggling installs. Sequential reads of up to 7,300 MB/s are well above Sony’s 5,500 MB/s recommendation, the 1,200 TBW endurance rating is far beyond what typical console use writes, and the five-year limited warranty matches the licensed 850P. It is not officially licensed by PlayStation, so you are relying on SanDisk’s stated compatibility and Sony’s published size limits rather than a badge, and it is a big spend at today’s storage prices. If you also build or upgrade PCs, it is equally at home in a desktop M.2 slot.
