Our Verdict

A cheap, light, folding dryer for a weekend bag, a gym locker or a student room. The handle folds flat, it comes with both a concentrator and a diffuser (unusual at this price), and a dual voltage switch means it can also be used in lower-voltage countries such as the US and Canada. It has a UK/Irish 3-pin plug, so on the Continent or in the US you still need a plug adaptor, and you must switch it back to the high-voltage setting before using it at home: Wahl warns that the wrong setting will damage the dryer. At 1,000W it has less than half the power of a 2,400W full-size dryer, so long, thick hair takes noticeably longer. Treat it as a backup or travel dryer rather than your main one. The 1.8m cable is also shorter than most full-size dryers’.
