Why We Recommend This

An officially licensed Switch 2 controller with Hall effect sticks and a C button, for well under the price of Nintendo’s Pro Controller.

Independent Editorial Assessment

Our Verdict

The sensible second controller for a Switch 2 household. It is officially licensed, so it is designed to work with the console, and it has the C button that opens GameChat, which many older third-party pads lack. Hall effect thumbsticks use magnetic sensors rather than contacts that wear, a design meant to resist the stick drift that plagued original Joy-Con. PowerA’s mappable Advanced Gaming Buttons can be programmed mid-game without going into system settings, motion controls work for aiming and steering, and PowerA rates the battery at up to 30 hours. PowerA states that it does not support HD rumble or amiibo (NFC), so if those matter, look at Nintendo’s own Pro Controller.
