Does Amazon.ie Deliver to Northern Ireland?

Amazon.ie is built for addresses in the Republic, so Northern Ireland shoppers are served by Amazon.co.uk. Here is which store to use on each side of the border, what the Windsor Framework means for parcels, and how Prime and currency work.

The short answer

Not in the way most people mean. Amazon.ie is set up for the Republic of Ireland: its help pages say its free delivery and Prime delivery benefits apply only to addresses in the Republic. Northern Ireland is part of the UK, so if you live there, Amazon.co.uk is your home store, with sterling prices, UK Prime, and no customs declarations or duty on ordinary parcels sent from Great Britain to consumers in Northern Ireland under the Windsor Framework. If you live in the Republic, including right beside the border, use Amazon.ie: items sold and dispatched by Amazon.ie arrive with no import charges.

Below: which store to use in each situation, the Windsor Framework in plain terms, Prime and currency across the two sites, and the one cross-border workaround Revenue has warned against. These rules change, so we also say where to check the current position.

If you live in Northern Ireland

For a Northern Ireland address, Amazon.co.uk works much as it does elsewhere in the UK: sterling prices with UK VAT included, no import VAT on arrival, and UK Prime. Amazon.co.uk's help page on Northern Ireland deliveries says some items may be unavailable for delivery there and some deliveries take longer because of post-Brexit customs requirements. Once your address is selected, the product page or checkout tells you whether an item can be sent.

  • Prime speeds vary. Amazon.co.uk lists One-Day Delivery for mainland UK and parts of Northern Ireland, with Standard Delivery as the fallback elsewhere.
  • Some items can't be sent. Amazon.co.uk's shipping restrictions exclude Northern Ireland for some products, including certain items it classes as dangerous goods.
  • Third-party sellers set their own rules and may not ship to Northern Ireland, or may charge more. The Consumer Council says delivery restrictions and surcharges must be made clear before checkout.

The Windsor Framework, simply put

Northern Ireland is part of the UK's customs territory but continues to follow EU rules for goods, which is what keeps the land border open. The Windsor Framework, agreed by the UK and EU in 2023, is the current version of that arrangement. Two movements matter to online shoppers.

Great Britain to Northern Ireland. Goods staying in Northern Ireland can use a simplified route (originally called the “green lane”, now the UK internal market system), while goods at risk of moving on into the EU go through the “red lane” with full customs controls. Under parcel arrangements in force since 1 May 2025, UK government guidance says goods a business sends to a Northern Ireland consumer need no customs declaration and carry no duty, provided a carrier authorised under the UK Carrier Scheme moves them. In September 2026 the UK and EU confirmed that no customs duties are to be paid on these business-to-consumer parcels.

Northern Ireland to the Republic. Revenue says there are no customs declarations, tariffs or customs checks on goods moving between Northern Ireland and the Republic. Citizens Information says goods based in Northern Ireland when you order them carry no customs duty, and An Post says parcels arriving from Northern Ireland are not subject to VAT and customs charges, although they are still cleared through Irish Customs. VAT is included in the price, as it would be by a seller elsewhere in the EU.

Our customs charges guide and customs calculator cover the arithmetic for UK orders. If a courier collects the charges at your door rather than the retailer at checkout, An Post adds an administration fee of around €7 per parcel at the time of writing.

Living near the border in the Republic

If you live in Donegal, Louth, Monaghan, Cavan, Leitrim or Sligo, you are an Amazon.ie customer like anyone else in the Republic, with Irish Prime and free delivery on eligible items available to your address. Prime delivery is typically next-day in most areas, but rural addresses, bulky items and peak periods can take longer, so trust the estimate shown with your address selected.

The old border habit of having UK orders delivered to a friend's address, a parcel depot or a post office in Northern Ireland, then collecting them, is now a real risk. When the €3 duty arrived in 2026, Irish customs said, in comments reported by the Derry Journal, that non-EU goods delivered to Northern Ireland and moved into the Republic to get around customs procedures are not permitted and can be detained and seized. Revenue counts goods from Great Britain as coming from outside the EU.

Amazon.ie now covers most of what the Northern Ireland address used to: euro prices, no import charges on Amazon.ie stock, and returns that stay in the Republic. For anything it doesn't stock, compare the full Amazon.co.uk total delivered to your own address, as our Amazon.ie vs Amazon.co.uk guide explains.

Prime on Amazon.ie and Amazon.co.uk

Each Prime membership belongs to one store. Amazon.co.uk says orders on other Amazon websites are not covered by its Prime membership, and Amazon.ie says its Prime delivery benefits are only available to customers in the Republic of Ireland.

  • Northern Ireland address: UK Prime on Amazon.co.uk is the membership that matches where you live.
  • Republic of Ireland address: Irish Prime on Amazon.ie. When Amazon.ie launched, Amazon said UK Prime members with an Irish shipping address could switch using a prompt on Amazon.ie, with the UK membership cancelled and fully refunded, even on an annual plan.
  • Check before you switch: Amazon said Amazon Family and reading with Prime were not available on Irish Prime at the time, and suggested keeping a UK membership if you rely on them.

The memberships are billed separately and prices change, so check each store's Prime page. Our Prime explainer covers whether Irish Prime pays for itself.

Euro, sterling and currency conversion

Amazon.ie charges in euro with Irish VAT included. Amazon.co.uk charges in sterling, which is simple for a Northern Ireland shopper with a sterling card. If you are in the Republic and buying from Amazon.co.uk, you can either let Amazon's currency converter charge you in euro, with its conversion charges built into the exchange rate it shows, or pay in sterling and let your bank convert, sometimes with a foreign-transaction fee. Compare the two, and remember that conversion sits on top of import VAT and any duty, so the final checkout total is the figure that matters.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use Amazon.ie if I live in Northern Ireland?

You can browse it, but it is built for Republic of Ireland addresses: Amazon.ie's free delivery and Prime delivery benefits apply only there. For delivery to a Northern Ireland address, Amazon.co.uk is the store designed for you. Amazon.ie is useful when you want something delivered to a friend or relative in the Republic.

Do I pay customs on Amazon.co.uk orders delivered to Northern Ireland?

Not on ordinary consumer orders. Amazon.co.uk orders to Northern Ireland are UK sales with UK VAT in the price, and under the Windsor Framework, business-to-consumer parcels from Great Britain need no customs declaration and carry no duty when an authorised carrier moves them. A few items cannot be sent to Northern Ireland addresses at all.

Are there customs charges on parcels from Northern Ireland to the Republic?

Generally no. Northern Ireland follows EU rules for goods, so Revenue says there are no customs declarations or tariffs between the two, and An Post says parcels from Northern Ireland are not subject to VAT and customs charges. The exception is goods actually dispatched from Great Britain, which are imports whatever the seller's address.

Can I have an Amazon.co.uk order delivered to a Northern Ireland address and collect it?

We would advise against it. Irish customs has warned that non-EU goods, which includes goods from Great Britain, delivered to Northern Ireland and moved into the Republic to get around customs procedures can be detained and seized. If the item is on Amazon.ie, buy it there; if not, compare the Amazon.co.uk total delivered to your own address.

Does UK Prime work on Amazon.ie?

No. Prime memberships are tied to one store, and Amazon.co.uk says its Prime doesn't cover orders on other Amazon websites. If you live in the Republic and have UK Prime, Amazon lets you switch to Irish Prime with your UK membership cancelled and refunded. In Northern Ireland, UK Prime is the membership that matches your address.

Does Amazon.ie deliver next day to border counties?

Amazon.ie delivers throughout the Republic, including the border counties, and Prime delivery is typically next-day in most areas. It is not guaranteed everywhere: rural addresses, large items and peak periods such as Black Friday and Christmas can take longer. The estimate shown with your own address selected is the one to trust.
